Tennessee Titans News

The Jets were busy reworking the bottom part of their roster yesterday, one day after making their final cut down to 53 players.

They acquired quarterback Kevin O'Connell from the Lions for an undisclosed draft choice (likely a seventh rounder), and were awarded fullback Jason Davis (Bears), tight end Matthew Mulligan (Titans) and punter A.J. Trapasso (Titans) off waivers.

The Jets put an earlier waiver claim on O'Connell after the Patriots cut him last week, before the Lions were awarded his services. The addition of O'Connell gives the Jets four quarterbacks on the roster - Mark Sanchez, Kellen Clemens, Erik Ainge are the other three.

His signing fuels some speculation that Clemens, who has a sore right elbow, could be on the trading block or even be in danger of being released. That seems highly unlikely, because it would leave the Jets without a single QB on the roster with NFL starting experience.

The Jets waived punter Reggie Hodges, tackle Mike Kracalik, linebacker Brandon Renkart and running back Danny Woodhead to clear room.

Many players on the team were fired up about Woodhead surviving final cuts on Saturday, and the Jets surely are hoping no one claims Woodhead so they can sign him to the practice squad.

Trapasso's claim to fame is being the punter who struck the $40 million scoreboard hanging over the field in Jerry Jones' new Cowboys Stadium during a preseason game.

The pickup of Trapasso marks the end of the Hodges' short and inconsistent stint with the team.

Mulligan is a second-year player who is more of a blocking tight end than a receiver. He'll be the third tight end on the roster behind Dustin Keller and Ben Hartsock, another blocking specialist whom the Jets signed as a free agent last week.

Davis split time in 2008 between Chicago and Oakland, playing in six games, starting three, and catching one pass for 12 yards for Chicago. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Eagles in 2006.
